Happy Valentine’s Day from my crew of cupcakes to yours!
I used to despise this holiday. Yes, I was part of the anti-Hallmark-holiday club. Then I became a mom and I LOVE it. My son is still a little too small to get it (though he fully understood the cupcake he inhaled this afternoon). My daughter, who is obsessed with all things pink and red, thinks that Valentine’s Day is the best thing ever. How could I not feed off of her positive energy and love every minute of this? Valentines for school? So fun! Cupcakes and candy? Yes, please! A little goody bag of stuff at the breakfast table? I can’t help myself! Heart-shaped pizza for dinner? Heck yes!
What has happened to me? I got soft, that’s what happened. Kids make you soft. They also make you badass, but that’s a topic for a different post. As much as they drive me up the wazoo, these kids bring so much LOVE to this house and this momma that I just can’t help myself but hop on the Valentine’s Day train. Choo! Choo!
If I could have a little conversation with the old me (jaded anti-Valentine’s-day me), I would say this: What’s so bad about having a day every year devoted to love? That doesn’t mean I love my family and friends any less every other day of the year. We just get a special day every year to celebrate love even bigger and cheesier than usual! And, let’s be frank: who doesn’t love chocolate? If you’re one of those people who doesn’t like chocolate… please explain this to me. You confuse me (but I respect our differences, obvi).
So, Happy Love Day, folks. Color this sarcastic momma all pink and fuzzy today.
